How To Rent A Car In Costa Rica

best things to do in Costa Rica

Mapache Car Rental

One of the best ways to experience Costa Rica is by driving through the countryside! The landscape is so diverse and beautiful that we were constantly pulling over to stop for a photo or amazing local food! Renting a car gave us the flexibility to leave and stop whenever we wanted!

Costa Rica Treasures contacted us with Mapache Car Rentals. From start to finish, Mapache made the entire car rental process so easy! They were at the airport, sign in hand, waiting to pick us up and take us directly to the car rental. We also were able to pick the car up in San Jose and drop it off in the northern city of Liberia. This allowed us to continue on with our travels without any extra driving!

Even when we broke the car key in Monteverde, Mapache Car Rental coordinated with our local travel agent Sonja from Costa Rican Treasures to figure out a solution. Even though we were three hours from their office, they were able to send out a local locksmith who was able to make a copy of the key on the spot! This got us safely back on the road in no time, and we cannot thank them enough!!

We felt very safe while driving! The major roads in Costa Rica are well paved and easy to navigate. (Just make sure to ask about road conditions if you are going away from the major travel destinations.) The local Costa Ricans were so kind and helpful too! One time while we were stopped on the side of the road taking pictures, 3 different people stopped to see if we needed any help! If you have the opportunity, Costa Rica is possibly the best country in Central America to rent a car and go exploring!
