There are a lot of great, creative date ideas, but sometimes the standard are the best. One thing that makes any date the best is when your husband plans it! That is what happened this past Thursday. I wasn’t feeling the best so when Hudson said “lets have a date night” I was thinking “oh great.” But I have to give him credit; he seemed to know that I wasn’t in the mood to go out and do anything, so he suggested a movie night.
But instead of just putting in an old movie that we have seen a hundred times before, he went to Walmart and came back with Pitch Perfect 2, which happens to be my favorite movie of 2015!
But I could see in the bag that there was something more than just the DVD…
He actually got the Pitch Perfect 2 Blu-Ray/Soundtrack combo pack (the soundtrack has been on repeat ever since!) and, just before he put in the movie, he brought over a tray of popcorn, melted chocolate, and lots of fondue dippers – strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, bananas, rice krispies, and chocolate chip ice cream sandwiches!
The movie was amazing and the fondue, although a little messy, was sooo tasty! That date was a great reminder to never stop dating. Even though we have only been married for 3 years I seem to forget to keep “dating” my hubby. We spend each day together doing everyday life things, but it is sometimes good to take a little time to pursue each other the same way we did when we were dating.
It meant so much that he took the time to think of something unique that I would enjoy! For any guys out there, let me tell you, nothing says I love you quite like Pitch Perfect 2, strawberries, and fondue! We don’t even have a fondue pot, but Hudson found a way to make the chocolate on our stove. Here is the recipe:
Stovetop Fondue Recipe
Ingredients
8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
toothpicks for dippers
various dippers of your choice
Directions
1. Heat the heavy cream, vanilla, butter, and chocolate chips together in a saucepan.
2. Once chocolate chips are melted, gently stir until completely smooth.
3. Pour into heat-resistant bowl and serve with your favorite dippers!
In addition to loving the fondue, we had so much fun just laughing and singing along with the songs in the movie. We even had a little Pitch Perfect 2 inspired pillow fight (can’t get enough of Fat Amy – she cracks me up)! I love that Hudson enjoyed the movie just as much as I did; Pitch Perfect really does appeal to both girls and guys!
After the movie, we were talking and decided to start being more intentional about our weekly date nights. Each week, we are going to take turns planning a date for each other. That way, no matter how busy we get, we will still make time for each other. I hope that when we are older, we will still be having movie nights like this!
