10 Things I Learned From RVing America

This week marks two years since we left for our RV trip! Hard to believe it’s been that long. We are so thankful for all of the memories of our trip, but this week we’ve been thinking about how – more than the things we did – a bigger part of the story is the things we learned. Especially about the type of people we want to be and the life we want to live.

Here are some of those things I’ve been thinking about!

1. Joy cannot be circumstantial. I need to base my joy in Jesus, not on what’s going on around me.

2. I want to live purposefully. And living purposefully isn’t about WHAT I’m doing…it’s about HOW I’m living.

3. Hot showers are the besttttt. It’s amazing how a roadtrip can make you grateful for little “luxuries!”

4. Everything in life can be used to either help me become more of who I want to be or prepare me for what’s ahead.

5. Plan, plan, plan…and then be flexible to change all your plans.

6. Google and YouTube are amazing. Can’t imagine the trip without technology!

7. America is so, so beautiful. Some of the states I wasn’t looking forward to as much became some of the states I was most surprised by or were the best states for camping (although there are still ones I’d rather spend more time in than others).

8. I really want to treasure time with people more. And cheer on others more like people have been so kind to do for us.

9. When pushing myself to do something, I rarely want to do it in the moment, but after the fact I’m usually glad I did. *Usually.*

10. Most times, things that seem like a really difficult or frustrating situation in the moment are not that big of a deal looking back. I can now see how many things I was worried about were either not that big of a deal or shaped me into more of the person I want to be (see #4).

Still working on alllllll of these things (well except the hot showers, thank goodness) and I didn’t necessarily need to go on an RV trip to learn them, but I’m grateful for the perspective these past two years have brought and pray that I will live more in light of eternity moving forward!
