Thank you to the fabulous Sami of Sami Proctor Photography & Design for taking the after photos of our bedroom, shown below. Check out her beautiful work and follow her on Facebook & Instagram. Also, a huge thank you to Wayfair and BeautyRest!
Living in a two-bedroom apartment certainly isn’t always ideal. But, since the DC / Baltimore area is one of the most expensive areas to live in the U.S., we don’t exactly have a choice :)
Later this week, I will be sharing some of the positives and negatives I’ve learned about apartment living. But one thing I am very thankful for is that from the beginning, we found an apartment complex that we love. We just signed our lease for a third year!
It is so fun working together with Hudson to make this little place our home. For the first year, we didn’t even paint the walls because we weren’t sure if we would stay here. But year two we decided we should paint, and now that we’re heading into year three, we’re trying to make even more upgrades.
We discussed various master bedroom ideas because ours was, let’s just say, not very romantic feeling. I hate to even show you the before pictures but, here you go…
Before
What we had unfortunately reminded me of college living. Things were just put in certain places because they seemed to “fit,” not necessarily because it looked good. Hudson thought it would be a good idea to pin pieces of paper with his goals on the walls. And there was too much black. The pillows, side tables, and curtains seemed to overtake any light that was in the room and make everything appear dull.
After
Talk about a huge difference a few “small,” yet essential changes can make! I imagine this is not only true for apartments, but also for houses – we kept coming back to the fact that a good master bedroom starts with a great bed.
Wayfair was generous enough to provide us with a beautiful king platform bed, and it was the exact touch of elegance that our bedroom needed!
The upholstered footboard and side rails make the bed look great from every angle, and my favorite aspect is the headboard’s tufting with diamond-like acrylic buttons. It makes me feel like I am sleeping in a fancy hotel room, not my own bedroom!
We also got a new mattress – the Simmons® BeautyRest® Recharge mattress – which is, no exaggeration, the best mattress I’ve ever slept on. It is the perfect balance of support and comfort for a great night’s sleep.
We swapped our old bedding out for a Wayfair embroidered quilt and covered the bed with fun throw pillows – because a girl can’t have enough throw pillows, am I right?! :)
After completing the bed, the next section of our room to tackle was my desk area. We moved this in from the living room because it seemed much more in place here. And I just love how it extends into my closet (the biggest closet I’ve ever had, thanks to my selfless husband who gave the entire thing to me)!
Overall, the room has changed into a place where I actually want to (and love to) spend time. When you walk into the room, it just feels like a space you want to relax in – vs. beforehand when one of the last things I wanted to do was spend time there.
Have you updated a room in your home recently? If so, I would love for you to share your tips below as we work on the other rooms in our home!
