The first thing I noticed when the meal arrived is how cool the packaged looked. It was like a high tech portable mini fridge filled with food and dropped off at our apartment! There were pullout shelves with pre-cut ingredients that were portioned out for each meal.
Now I’m not much of a cook. Like I’m pretty much a just stick to making cereal and ordering pizza type cook. :) I have tried my hand at a few meals here and there but they usually end up as burnt, yet somehow not fully cooked piles of no longer edible food. Probably the reason things usually go so wrong is because I don’t follow directions well and hate how much time it takes. Because of my lack of cooking skills Em and I have a deal – she cooks, I clean.
But I actually surprised myself with cooking the meals that were delivered from Terra’s Kitchen. The directions were so easy to follow and everything was already measured out and ready to go. All I had to do was dump the ingredients together, cook, and serve. None of the meals took longer than 30 minutes to make and most of that time was just the cooking because all the food was already prepped. Cooking these meals got me a lot of brownie points with Em because I actually made something that wasn’t burnt or bought from a restaurant.
I don’t like to say that I am a picky eater, but I think most healthy foods taste exactly what I would assume grass tastes like. ;) So when Em told me that all of Terra’s Kitchen’s meals were made of natural ingredients, no artificial or processed ingredients and are what they call “plantstrong,” I just knew that I would be chewing on some grass for the next week. The company places a strong emphasis on caring for the environment through using sustainable food sources and using reusable packaging. Which I really like companies that are more than just a business and are really doing something for the environment, but I was also thinking “What’s good for the environment is usually bad for my tastebuds.” But I was honestly really surprised that not only was the healthy “grass flavor” missing, but I actually really enjoyed the meals a lot! (Which doesn’t happen often when I am cooking).
Terra’s Kitchen currently has 17 different menu options to pick from on their website, and the recipes change with the seasons. A big plus for me was the portion sizes were big enough for the both of us that I didn’t have to go scouring the kitchen for the last night’s leftovers. It’s cool how they have all types of recipes to cater toward gluten-free, paleo, vegetarians, and omnivores like me!
But my absolute favorite part of the meals was the cleanup! (remember, I am usually the dishes guy). Because all the food came already prepped. All I had to clean up were a couple of dishes. The package that the food came in we just set outside our apartment and it was picked up the next day.
Terra’s Kitchen advertises that each meal takes 30 minutes or less to make, but the whole process actually saved us so much more time. We didn’t have to take time looking for new recipes because we could just pick from the menu. We didn’t have to go shopping and waste 15 minutes looking for 1 jar of wheat germ or some other obscure recipe. We didn’t have to cut, peel, and prep all the food. And lastly, we didn’t have to clean up our entire kitchen after but just a couple of dishes.
