Alphabet Date H – Horse Race – The Preakness Stakes!

Our H date was one of my absolute favorites so far! We went to a horse race – the Preakness Stakes! The Preakness has been something we’ve wanted to go to ever since we moved to Maryland, so it was really exciting to finally have the chance to go! Here is a video of our experience:

We had the opportunity to be in the Mug & Vine Lounge, which is part of the Infield and thankfully is under a tent because it was just a little rainy! Hud and I had planned to dress fancy, but my coworker suggested wearing more comfortable clothes and boots to walk in the rain, and she was so right. Very glad I opted for leggings and rain boots instead!

The Infield was super fun because you could watch horse races along the exterior or concerts in the interior! Our favorite artists there were Fetty Wap and Chris Janson – it was a blast.

They invited us to attend the races, and were so kind in answering all of my questions from the very beginning. If you have not heard of them before, check them out! Their website is full of helpful information – I spent hours reading up on everything from horse racing fashion to Preakness facts to the ins & outs of betting! And Dan from ABR was also super gracious to explain exactly how the betting worked on the day of the race, since Hudson and I were complete newbies. :)

For the main race – the Preakness Stakes – we bet $5 each of our favorites. I went with Collected, which had a 15-1 odds, and Hud chose Uncle Lino, which had a 35-1 odds. We also put $2 on Nyquist in hopes that he might be a Triple Crown winner! It was such an exciting race because Hud’s horse was winning for most of the time – and at one point, all three of our favorites were in the top! Unfortunately, none of them won, but it was a crazy race.

Our favorite part of the day was interacting with people at the race. Everyone was super friendly and there was just so much excitement and patriotism. It was an awesome day, and the perfect H date! Thanks so much again to America’s Best Racing for making it so wonderful.
