Alphabet Date C – Circus Date – Ringling Bros. Barnum & Bailey

circus dateFor our C date, I had an idea that I was really excited about, so I asked Hud if he’d switch letters with me! :)

The Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey circus was in town, and I remembered how much fun I had when my grandparents took me to the circus as a kid. They recently gave me some money for my birthday, so I thought buying tickets would be a cool way to spend it – not only to enjoy the time with Hud, but also remember the experience with them. (And apparently Hud rode a circus elephant when he was a kid – so jealous!)

I wasn’t sure if we’d enjoy the circus as much as adults, but we really did. Some of the stunts I could not believe – I was literally scared for them! Especially the guy on the “hampster wheel” as we call it in the video…he was CRAZY! At first, when he was inside of the wheel and I thought there was a tailing on one side of it, I thought he was crazy for doing flips. But, then I realized there was not any railing, and THEN he went on the outside of the wheel and even started jumping rope. Like, he literally had no fear.

But confirmation that the circus life isn’t for us was either when they flung a girl out of a cannon or when the tigers started looking hungry. Still debating which would be worse!

Here’s a video we made of our date:

In addition to the circus, we decided to go to Fogo de Chão and Ripley’s Believe It or Not! – two places we’ve been wanting to go to ever since we moved to Baltimore.

Fogo de Chão is a Brazilian steakhouse that we KEPT hearing people talk about, and it definitely did not disappoint! Like yum…just writing this is making me want to go back. They have all-you-can-eat meats of all varieties, from pork to chicken to steak…but my favorite was definitely the Picanha, which is the prime part of the top sirloin. Although, really, all of the options were my favorite!

In addition to the meats, they also give you hot sides and their “Market Table” is full of lots of different options. We learned that they’d just released new spring recipes featuring fresh, seasonal fruits and veggies combined in unique ways. Two of my favorites were the Forbidden Black Rice Salad (rice seasoned with salt & garlic, and finished with mangoes and mint) and Edamame Roasted Corn Salad. You’ve GOT to try them if you go! Although, save room for the meat – and definitely don’t eat a big lunch beforehand, because your stomach will be FULL!

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! was so much fun. I loved reading all of the different exhibits (most of which really were incredible to believe) and laughing about which of the things we would be most likely to do.

Hud’s favorite exhibits were the ones made of matchbox sticks, and he also loved the 4-D movie! One of my favorite things was being able to see my name in hieroglyphics. Here’s what it looked like!

We both also really enjoyed the Ripley’s house of mirrors. Took me forever to find out way out, but Hud was aMAZEing at it ;) Here’s him working through the maze.

I always figured that Ripley’s was more for kids, but that’s definitely not the case – we really enjoyed it. If you’re looking for a fun and unique date idea, I definitely recommend checking it out. We had SO much fun at that, Fogo De Chão, and the circus!

Can’t wait for next week to go on our D date!
