4 Tips for More Fun Dates

I’m a big advocate of always “dating” your husband. Hudson and I love adventure, so I enjoy writing posts about a fun date or new place that we went to.

But let’s be real, many of our “dates” consist of eating pizza, watching a movie, and falling asleep by 9:30. Not always the most glamorous.

Then there are the dates that we do actually go out and in theory it sounds great: “get all dressed up, go to some place fancy to eat, and/or visit a new place.” But sometimes after all that, it can be easy to think “these heels are a pain, the food is way too expensive, and why won’t he just stop and ask for directions?” (Sorry, Hud… :)

So I thought of four tips to help make sure that we have fun, adventurous, date nights:
1. Plan a budget.
2. Pick an outfit.
3. Pack a purse.
4. And, Hudson’s favorite…Prepare to talk about football!

1. Plan a budget.

Since we have started to set aside date night money, we have started doing a lot more things. It is much easier to enjoy a date when you’ve already set aside the money for it instead of thinking of how much everything costs.

Some date nights, we don’t spend any money and just go for a bike ride or a picnic in the park and save up for other date nights like a concert. We also set aside money for a yearly vacation and 2 mini weekend getaways. That way, we don’t have any excuses for why we “can’t spend the money” to get out and spend time together.

2. Pick an outfit.

It might sound kind of silly, but I’ve found that I am a lot more likely to go somewhere if I am excited to wear an outfit. Not to mention how much time I save pre-picking outfits.

I try to always have 3 different outfits in mind in case we plan to go somewhere. An active outfit, casual outfit, and a formal outfit. This way I am ready for any occasion!

3. Pack a purse.

Having a purse pre-packed too makes it a lot easier to be adventurous. I keep a purse with all my essential “date night” items by bed so all I have to do is grab it and go. My favorite is this navy one because it coordinates with just about anything!

There is nothing that says “I am not up for an adventure” like a headache or a cold. So three items that I have packed in the side pocket of my purse are Advil Liqui-Gels, Advil tablets, Chapstick, and Emergen-C.

Most people may ask why I carry two different types of Advil instead of one. Advil seems to help with any aches and pains. You can use Advil tablets for headaches, minor arthritis and other joint pain, muscle aches and pains of the common cold. However, Advil Liqui-Gels are designed for advanced liquid fast relief. The gel capsule allows the Liqui-Gels to absorb and start working quicker, but tend to cost a little more. So I usually keep both with me, and use the Liqui-Gels on a shorter date and the regular tablets for longer dates.

Chapstick is a no brainer. Especially as the weather gets colder, my lips seem to constantly be dry. And that can be especially frustrating on date nights! ;) So this is definitely a must-have.

And why Emergen-C? My mom taught me from a young age that the key to preventing a cold is Vitamin C. Emergen-C was designed for “More Healthy Days, More Healthy Nights” and has 1,000mg of Vitamin C in each packet. So even if I start feeling a little sick on a date, I always have a packet of Emergen-C on hand!

4. Prepare to talk about football.

You might be surprised how well this last one actually works. It never seems to fail to get Hudson talking. No matter if he is in a talkative mood or not, all I have to do to get him talking is to say “So do you think the Eagles have a shot this week?” Sometimes I am not sure if most guys would talk if sports weren’t invented ;) Haha!
