I’ve discovered a secret that all husbands and boyfriends should know, that I thought I’d share today..

Like almost every woman, Em loves thoughtful gifts. So, of course, for Christmas I could get her the usual jewelry, flowers, and chocolate…but a guy can only give them so many times. And guys, don’t be fooled. If your girl says “oh, you really don’t have to get me anything this year” that means “I would love it if you got me something really thoughtful and special.” I may or may not have learned that the hard way ;) Em’s gifts to me are usually elaborate themed ideas with some sort of sentimental significance. But last year, I started resorting to the “how about you just pick out your own gift” approach. Which worked for Em’s birthday, but for Christmas last year she started to catch on to me.

It’s not that I don’t like to be romantic, but it can be pretty hard to be creative, you know? Then, if I do find something romantic, it usually ends up costing a lot. But this year, I discovered the secret to great gift ideas. So to all the guys (and wives who want their husbands to get them a great gift) here is the secret: buying gifts through LivingSocial. They literally have everything – from skydiving to pottery making – available on their website, and they have great deals too! “Experience” gifts are ones that truly “gifts” your lady something to talk about!!

Here are three examples of great date ideas that I found in our area!

The Ugly Sweater Run

Em likes to be adventurous and is always up for a new experience. The Ugly Sweater Run is a 5k run with snow machines, reindeer games, inflatables, and holiday music. The package includes tickets to the race, a knit hat, and…all the hot chocolate that you can drink. It also gives you a great excuse to break out the ugliest sweater that you can find! I think that Em and I may have found a new Christmas tradition with this one!!

Carrol’s Creek Cafe

LivingSocial is one of the best ways to discover new restaurants while saving some money. Em and I have found several great local restaurants through LivingSocial. So this Christmas, I want to take Em to Carrol’s Creek Cafe in Annapolis. It offers fresh Maryland seafood in the Annapolis City Marina. Definitely a step up from pizza delivery! :)

Valley Ballooning

A hot air balloon ride is one of our top bucket list items. It’s a way to do something fun and daring but still be a little romantic as well! On LivingSocial, Valley Ballooning offers a semi-private hot air balloon flight with a sparkling cider toast. This is one of those gifts that I know Em will remember forever!

So guys, if you want to earn major points this Christmas, try something new, and save money, check out LivingSocial to find great local deals for awesome experiences!!
