I want to preface this post by saying that our marriage is not perfect.
While our marriage is wonderful, there is so much more we both (but especially I) should be doing to love each other more and better make the most of our time together.
But yesterday my husband did something that amazed me, and I wanted to share it in case any husbands are reading this who might be wondering how to love your wife better. (And this easily applies to wives loving their husbands, too).
He said to me 10 simple words.
“I love you. What can I do to help you?”
Let me take a step back. Hudson leaves before me and gets home after me every single day. And on top of working full time, he is taking MBA classes full time.
But he’s seen that lately I’ve been tired. I’ve been down on myself for no reason other than I feel like I have a million things on my to-do list…a to-do list filled with a lot of things that don’t even really matter.
So Hudson sincerely asking me what he can do to serve me, what he can do to help clear my plate, made such a big impact on me.
It was such a selfless sign of serving, a true act of love to ask that when I am the one that should be asking what I can do to help him.
It was an example of Jesus’s love for me.
And I am convinced those 10 words can revolutionize a marriage.
I pray that they revolutionize ours, and that I will do a better job of asking Hud how I can help him – even in the times when I might not feel like it.
