How To Be A Godly Woman (Part Three)

What kind of woman do you want to be?

I could answer that question in many ways, but above all else, I want to be a godly woman.

I want to be a woman whose life so evidently displays how much she loves Jesus and loves her husband, through both her words and her actions.

This is the final post of a three-part series about how to be a godly woman, based on Proverbs 31…a chapter in the Bible dedicated to what a godly woman looks like! Make sure you read part one and part two, then continue here!

*Note: These are simply my thoughts on the verses and how I want to apply them to my life. In no way am I a Bible scholar! I recommend reading the chapter for yourself (Proverbs 31:10-31) – and feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!*

proverbs 31

Proverbs 31:26-31

“She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.”

Because the heart of a godly woman is wise, loving and kind, her words are that way too. When she instructs her children she follows the example of Jesus Christ. When she talks to other people, she does so out of love. I want to be known as a woman who only says positive things about others. I want my words to build people up, not tear them down. I want to speak out of wisdom, love and kindness.

“She watches over the affairs of her household”

I want to be aware of what goes on inside my home. When I have children, I should set a godly example for them and then “watch over them” to make sure I am encouraging them to know God and show His loves to others.

“and does not eat the bread of idleness.”

Again we are reminded that a godly woman is not a lazy woman. In some ways, the Proverbs 31 woman is intimidating to me because she is SO good at what she does and is always working hard at something! But in other ways that is exactly who I want to be. I need to have joy in my work, knowing that I am blessed with the opportunity to serve God and my husband.

“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: ‘Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.’”

The people who knew the Proverbs 31 woman best (her husband and children) knew that she was a godly woman. I feel like I’m the exact opposite – the people who know me best know what a mess I can be. But on the other hand, I want to live such a life that even though Hudson knows my flaws, he also knows that my heart truly desires to know God and be a godly woman. This verse is so neat because the husband tells his wife that she is so wonderful that she’s incomparable to any other woman. That is who I desire to be for my husband!!

“Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.”

What an awesome verse! So often I strive for outward beauty that I forget what really matters: inner beauty, a heart that loves the Lord. While it is definitely okay to want to look good, we have to keep external beauty in perspective. Even if we look great now, in thirty years we could look completely different – beauty is fleeting. BUT what really matters is “the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight” (1 Peter 3:4). I love that word unfading. When we seek to know God and have a heart that desires to please Him in everything we do, our inner beauty will shine through! I want to be known as a woman who stands out in a crowd, not just because of what I look like but because of WHO I AM.

“Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”

A godly woman will be rewarded. Whether it is here on earth, or in heaven someday, she will be praised for how she lived and who she was. I want to live such a legacy that when I die, people say “she was a person who set an example of loving God and glorifying Him in every area of her life.” If I want to be known as that someday, I need to start becoming that kind of woman TODAY. I need to start intentionally seeking God more and praying that I will become more like who He is!

Will you pray for me as I learn how to become a more godly woman? I’d be happy to pray for you too. Feel free to let me know how I can do that, or share your thoughts on Proverbs 31 below!

Also, if you have any questions about what it means to be a godly woman, how to know God more, or anything related to faith, please feel free to email me! I would love to talk with you and share more of my heart!
