How often do you get an oil change?

I never used to know how frequently you were supposed to – or even really cared about changing the oil at all, for that matter.

Until I started driving our van :)

Our van is a 1997 Chevy Conversion Van, and it was a gift from Hudson’s parents. We are SO thankful for it, because it is completely paid off and very easy to take care of, but it has definitely seen better days. It’s missing the rear view mirror, the AC and speakers are blown out, the brakes are worn, and the driver’s side door barely opens due to a run-in it had with a deer.

Two things that continue to run strong after 18 years and almost 250,000 miles are the engine and transmission. Which are by far the most important part!

And I think one of the biggest factors that keeps the van chugging along is that we get the oil changed regularly.

How frequently you should get the oil changed depends on your vehicle, but for us, we try to get it changed very frequently.

Although I know and can attest to how important getting your car’s oil changed is, doing it so often can be frustrating to me because it typically takes a couple hours of my day to take care of getting it changed.

The whole process took no more than 20 minutes, I was amazed!

You literally just have to pull your car up to the bay, answer a few questions, and then you get to go shopping while you wait! :) I had no idea what type of oil change I needed, and the guy who helped me was super helpful in looking it up and recommending the “High Mileage” change (I guess I should’ve guessed that one) with Pennzoil. This helps reduce leaks and oil consumption in worn or higher mileage engines (over 75,000 miles) to keep the engine running clean and going strong.

I learned that Pennzoil helps clean out the sludge that lesser oils leave behind, and it allows you to drive an extra 550 miles per year as compared to a dirty engine! It’s also designed for complete protection, with no other oil providing better protection from friction. And the best party is that Pennzoil offers a free warranty that covers 15 engine parts that may fail due to engine wear or which experience abnormal wear due to friction.

But the best part about the entire trip for me was that we got to shop while we waited! We stocked up on groceries for the week and the oil change was complete before we were even done shopping! Talk about a great opportunity to multi-task instead of sitting in the waiting room.
