About half of all my friends are teachers, and I am amazed at the way they give their hearts into going beyond just the classroom hours and truly giving their all so they can make a difference in the lives of their students!

Most of them work late at night and on weekends to grade papers, create lesson plans, and write encouraging notes to their students.

It’s amazing to me how much time they pour into their job and how they see it not just as a job, but as a mission. To me, teachers truly have the opportunity to make a difference!

So with back to school happening now, I wanted to share homemade gift ideas for teachers.

After brainstorming homemade gift ideas, I purchased some Sharpies and Uni-Ball pens at Office Depot, as well as a pack of flour sack kitchen towels in order to create DIY custom quote kitchen towels for one of my teacher friends. And today I’m sharing the tutorial!

Homemade Gift Ideas: DIY Custom Quote Kitchen Towels

1. Lay the towels on a flat, clean surface.

My friend’s favorite quote is “Live, Laugh, Love” so I made one for that, and then I also made a “Make A Difference” quote kitchen towel because of how I feel she makes a difference in her students’ lives each day. I want her to see the custom quote kitchen towels and be reminded of why she’s doing what she’s doing.

If you want to use these same quotes, you can download the free printable here!

3. Cut out the individual letters of the quotes and carefully place on the kitchen towels.

4. Choose a color you’d like the quote to be, then use a Uni-Ball pen to outline the quote. I chose an aqua color because it matches her kitchen colors.

5. Use Sharpies to fill in the quote outline with the color(s) of your choice!

6. Repeat steps 1-5 for as many towels as you’d like!
