First Meeting & First Date Memories

Most people have really cute stories of how they first met their significant other at a romantic place, and how it was love at first sight. Me, on the other hand…I met the love of my life for the first time at a sewage plant!! We were in 6th grade and we were on a field trip to the local wastewater treatment facility. I don’t remember much about the trip, except for…yep, you guessed it…the smell. It was exactly what you’d expect the compilation of an entire town’s waste to smell like. For Hud and I, it wasn’t exactly love at first sight (or smell). Needless to say it was a pretty crappy first encounter ;)

But the great thing is that our love story could only improve from there! The next couple of years, we took some classes together and I started to develop a middle school crush on this boy with a unique name. By 16, that cute boy that I met at the sewage plant asked me to date him. :) Here is a picture of us on our first date!

From that point on, we have had one adventure after another! Some have been great, like graduating from college together, having our dream wedding, and taking random road trips! Some have been interesting, like when Hud got a concussion within the first 3 weeks at college and fully lost his short term memory for a day, thinking that my boyfriend had been kidnapped right before he proposed to me, and finding myself tip toeing around the outside of a 1,800 foot building!

fun date

But some of my favorite memories have been the everyday memories like cooking together, playing tennis together, and watching movies (almost always chick flicks!) together. No matter what lies ahead, good, bad, or somewhere in between, I can’t wait to spend each new day with that boy that I met 15 years ago at the sewage plant!

fall date

Speaking of chick flicks…I want to say a big thank you to the new Nicholas Sparks movie, The Choice for inspiring me to write this post about how Hud and I met. The Choice is all about how two people meet through a series of interesting events and end up falling madly in love with each other. The movie takes place in coastal Carolina and follows the main characters Travis and Gabby as they have to make some pretty difficult choices in order to find true love. I love all Nicholas Sparks’ books and movies, and am really excited to go see the movie with Hudson when it comes out on February 5th!
